People always ask me - "How are you?"

I always reply - "I am blind. My left leg has been amputated. I have no family of my own. I am a kidney patient and have been on dialysis for the past 12 years."

Today, I add another sentence to that same question, - My brother Tho Bing, just passed away in May. He was also a kidney patient the past 29 years."

I know my time is coming very soon. My sister died in 1995 also of kidney failure. I never expected Tho Bing to go before me. I am very sad and each time I am on dialysis, I think of Tho Bing. I miss his voice.

With no financial support, I rely solely on MAA Medicare to take care of me 100% on medical and treatment cost.

I know, kind people like you support MAA Medicare and they take care of us. I am 1 of their 710 patients they take care of, at their 12 centres.

With the kind donations and support from Malaysians and the JB Lions, we now have a brand new dialysis centre. Though I can't see, I am glad that my brother saw it and had his dialysis here in comfort for the past few months before he died.

Kidney failure is on the rise. So many young people now are diagnosed with this dreaded disease. Imagine my friend in MAA Medicare, Kota Bahru is only 19 years old and he has to come for dialysis 3 times a week, 4 hours each session. He gave up on his studies and his life has now completely Seated a few chairs away from me is a 30 year old lady. It's sad, very sad.

Please continue your support towards MAA Medicare as patients like myself, need financial aid, support, and assistance. Kidney disease is costly. Without your help, most of us cannot afford treatments, blood tests, medications, and doctor's charges.

Even if you choose to donate RM1, we are very grateful. My Malay friends used to say "sikit-sikit, lama-lama jadi bukit"

On behalf of my late brother, and all the other patients dialyzing at Medicare, my sincere thanks.

Tian Toh Soon, 59.
